Course Description

Well over 76 million composite restorations get placed annually in the US according to the ADA. Direct composite restorations can be challenging for many clinicians. Insufficient interproximal contacts, post op sensitivity, recurrent decay, and inadequate anatomy are some of the issues. Finishing with traditional discs and cups can obliterate anatomy and cannot attain surface texture characteristics. New composites allow for easy placement, sculpting and polishing. The 5 Minute Finish technique gives clinicians the ability to place and finish anterior and posterior direct composite restorations that are undetectable.

Upon completion of this CE webinar, the student will:

  • Understand, identify and be able to sculpt appropriate anterior anatomy (line angles, lobes, emergence) and posterior anatomy (fossa, cusps, tertiary grooves).
  • Attain proficiency in placing surface texture to match natural tooth structure and in polishing direct composite to a high luster while maintaining the texture.
  • Be able to deliver undetectable direct composite restorations

Course Summary

There are numerous restorative dental materials on the market. All materials work well in various situations, and what separates a good clinician from a great clinician is knowing when and where to use a certain material. This information coupled with the fact that kids can often be unpredictable makes it very important to be well versed with the placement of multiple dental materials such that providers can handle difficult situations. As we continue the search for the ideal restorative dental material, we must embrace the great ones that exist today. Mastering the ART of placing glass ionomers is one challenge; fully understanding their potential to help in difficult situations can improve every clinician’s success.
